GRAPHIC DESIGN

Photography is often the centrepiece of magazines, leaflets and sometimes even branding - as such trying to take photos and develop an eye for photography certainly can be a useful skill.

Above is an example of the experimentation within Lightroom - what was originally a red became a Purple thanks to colour balance options without looking too 'faked' - of course its easier to tell with the original above it. Below is further experimentation with Shadows, Black and white settings as well as Shadows and colour!

Throughout the photos I've tried various techniques such as different angles, viewpoints, experimenting with camera settings as well as Adobe Lightroom settings to fine tune the photo.

During my time behind a camera I've learned about Aperture and Shutter Speed which essentially dictate the amount of light in the photo as well as the focus area. Aperture is focused around F values that let more or less light in depending on value while shutter speed is how long the lens is exposed to light during a photo i.e. ½ shutter speed lets more light in than 1/250 shutter speed because its open for longer meaning the ½ shutter speed picture will be significantly brighter.

While most shoots I attempt are usually spur of the moment, some are planned out for example when shooting for Verbose's magazine advert section I planned the shoot and where it would take place in advance as well as getting model release forms to follow a process and emulate a professional working relationship environment. Another example could be when I decided to walk up Solsbury hill in Bath, I made sure to plan out a route and figure out as many spots to stop off at to get good photos.

Here is some varience with Aperture, photo on the left is set to a low F/ stop causing the background to become blurred meanwhile, the photo to the left is more of a landscape/skyscape photo requiring the background to be in focus so the aperture is set higher to allow all object to be in focus.

Overall, I appreciate how far I've come with photography in a short space of time and enjoy the pasttime whenever I can - for fun and for imporovement!

For areas of improvement I'd like to work in experimenting with Shutter speed which causes more or less motion blur with photos, getting more photos of people as well as working in more photo manipulation by experimentation within Photoshop.

Example of the photoshoot planning done for Verbose magazine, which I someetimes do when planning to go out - most other times it strikes as a spur of the moment idea.
