Purple Maze/Sanguine Inertia

2021

GRAPHIC DESIGN

This project was done in attempt to improve our understanding of branding and how important it is to a company image and products. We did a wide range of work from studying and conducting case studies on well known brands to establish why they had earned such renown and apply anything we learned to a mock company we could experiment with alongside making a product and finding how to advertise it.

Conducted in late 2021 at Bath College this project very feel valuble to learning about branding in a very applicable manner. To start into branding we first looked at how real-life companies conducted themselves, we looked locally at publishing company 'Future Publishing' and a collective of creatives called 'Rising Arts Creative'. We focused on what they did and what they based their work on as well as how they operated.

We also maade sure to compare the two to see how each operated differently and evaluated what we knew from it this allowed us to look at both companies in different manners from buisness perspectives and a creative perspective to se what they cover. You can read about them and the evaluations here,

Additionally we conducted some research before going into designing of case studies of our choice. For me I choose to investigate Nintnedo and how they structure their advertsing campaigns, mostly to get an insight at how they appeal to a wide range of people through their adverts. These results can be found below.

Finally, I made an evaluation of this pre-production work covering all we've mentioned so far as well as deciding on a direction to take going forward.

The next stage invovled getting familiar with company work, in other words getting used to working around a schedule where we needed to plan all projects out within a timeframe as well as developing marketing strategies such as where to advertise and where will be most effective and have the most pull on an audience.

Another part of this was understnading reception theory which covers how audiences inteeract with content and how we interpert/consume media as well as how audience establishes meaning for most forms of media by taking from social context. We decided to cover this in creating forms of posters rather than putting into a document to make it slightly more visual and easier for to understand.

Reception Theory

Once we had compiled all the research and developed marketing plans we began production on our company. For me this went through a lot of different things - starting from creating a logo and incoperating it onto a banner, then moving on to crafting a product which essentially acted as the main product of Purple Maze, to developing supporting advertisments such as posters and social media/web adverts.

At one point I became quite stuck within development and decided to try my hand at actually desiging a game around the project so I used a helpful tool called RPG Maker, which uses pre-made assests to create a game - this helped to establish and idea of what the product could be like if it was for real and made it easier to advertise. I had also inteneded to put a demo out so people could interact with this 'product' to make the project all the more real.

You can see the details of all the work I made for this project to the left here which disscuses the processes and all skills I've made use of over the project.

This is the collection of work I did on my company Purple Maze. I feel as though looking back on this it's a very fun and enjoyable way to learn about branding and establishing your products in a very stress free enviroment and I'm happy to have taken part within it to learn what I have.

I think the work I managed to pull off here has been very successful in achieving its aims and it taught me a lot in the process such as making use of vector graphics, balance in colour on posters and the effort the needs to go into an organised advertsiment campaign (which is no doubt a lot heavier than what has been done here!), regardless I feel the work helped me take a step to the designs I make today in a deep and personal way.

Finally, I made sure to evaluate the success of each development within the project and if I deemed it a success - a lot of the project I felt was successful and achieved the branding aims that we had originally set out to achieve with being consistent and thought out.

You can see the evaluations to the left and below you'll find some press releases that we were asked to make as aa way of showcasing the company we had made as well as the product we had worked on - it was essentuially a way of rounding up the work but, in a realistic way which is essentially preparing for the work to become public and issuing a press statment.

Small correction here, "Of course the conclusion can be changed for the individual but, will remain simply as a product of their experiences - not the author's intent.
